COURTNEY'S STORY

During her undergraduate studies at Washington and Lee University, Courtney spent a semester in Freiburg, Germany. She later spent six months in Munich as a corporate intern before going on to complete her master’s degree in physical therapy at Virginia Commonwealth University in 1997. After becoming a licensed physical therapist, she first specialized in birth to three-year-olds, coaching and empowering parents while supporting skill development in infants and toddlers with developmental delays and/or disabilities. During this time as a PT, she became a Certified Early Intervention Specialist (CEIS). Since 2000, she also provided chest physical therapy to patients with chronic, life-shortening pulmonary diseases and even served for four years as the executive director of Chest Physical Therapy Services.

In 2020, Courtney decided to utilize the knowledge, skills, and experience she had gleaned in more than 20 years as a parent, physical therapist, and executive director to a new career. A lifelong learner, she was ready to apply her expertise to coaching, helping children and young adults with complex learning profiles -- and their parents – by spreading awareness and sharing the know-how she gained from her personal experience. It was not until her own son was 17 years old that she learned the term “twice-exceptional.” This opened the doors to understanding the challenging journey that she and her son had been on and helped her understand the approach needed to truly support him. Since becoming aware of that term, she has been on a mission to aid families in gaining the skills, affirmation, and strategies that neurodivergent people need to thrive. In pursuit of that mission, Courtney launched 2tametheshamE, Inc., in 2022, providing coaching, education, and advocacy for neurodivergent individuals and their parents.

In addition to 2tametheshamE, Courtney produces the See Me Podcast, with host and former journalist Patty Lubold. (Available on Spotify and Apple Podcasts). She serves on the boards of several organizations, including the Chris Walsh Center for Families and Educators at Framingham State University, the Inattentive ADHD Coalition, and the Bobcat Family Advisory Board with Ohio University. She is a member of SENG, MAGE, CHADD, and NAGC. She is a collaborator with the Office of Learning and Community Engagement at the MA Rehab Commission and was formerly a parent member of the MA DESE Special Education Advisory Council. A trained SENG Community Group (SGC) facilitator and a graduate of the PCTI of MA FCSN, Courtney has also been a guest lecturer for undergraduate and graduate student teachers at Framingham State University, discussing the topics of giftedness and twice-exceptionality. Additionally, Courtney has provided several trainings and webinars for various community, regional, and national organizations, including presenting at the annual international ADHD conference in 2024.

A resident of Framingham, Massachusetts, Courtney enjoys parenting and life adventures with her husband, their three children, and faithful four-legged walking companion, Baxter. She is
conversational in both French and German and likes to spend her free time with family and friends (especially at the beach), traveling to see new places and have new experiences, and  competing on the tennis court.
